Eavesdropped conversation

The aim of this module is to encourage the students to listen holistically and guess meanings from the context.

The learning outcomes may include:

  • students learn active listening, take risks in grasping the meaning in spite of gaps in linear story

  • students discover traps of assuming facts, stereotypes

  • students learn communicating with tone of voice, intensity, non-verbal cues

The material can be used in multiple ways as conversations to be reconstructed, for character and story building, for interviews of characters in different dramatic frames (participants, witnesses, authority, documentalists etc).

They can be also improvisation starters. What is important in the reflection part is the focus on the space for interpretation, diversity of ideas, different ways to cope with uncertainty.
