Our current project Get Ahead is a continuation of our previous projects Theatre as a Communication bridge and Communiction Bridges.
The project Get Ahead is carried out in the framework of the Youth in Action Program. Its main purpose is to improve young deaf people's opportunities for social activity in the hearing community and promote dialogue, exchange and cooperation between the youth of EU and China, while developing the competence of entrepreneurship.
Guanajuato, Valenciana, MexicoAugust, 2013
We spent two weeks with a great teacher Sigfrido Aguilar who's international school of pantomime is based in Valenciana, Guanajuato, in the mountains of Central Mexico, working on the traditional Mexican story titeled Erandi's Braids.
Slovene deaf people are using one hand alphabeth. With the group of young deaf people from Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ljubljana we made a game memory.
At first we worked mainly in the framework of the Institute for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ljubljana and The Association of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired of Slovenia. Due to the extension of our work we decided to establish Taka Tuka Association which has been successfully running since 2003. We also collaborate with other organisations from Slovenia: Društvo gluhih Ljubljana, Zveza Sonček, Dramska šola Barice Blenkuš, Plesna šola Ples Plus, Hiša otrok in umetnosti, Zavod za usposabljanje invalidne mladine Kamnik and with many organisations from abroad.
Our main activities are based on the creativity and challenges as important contributions for development of young people. We organize: creative workshops (theatrical, dance and fine art) for children, young people and adults; seminars for mentors, teachers of main stream schools and specialists that work with people with special needs; parenting schools; seminars for deaf adults. We have organized many youth exchanges, festivals, three conferences for Theater Pedagogy (with international participation), and training courses with international educators for trainers.
About TAKA TUKA
Taka Tuka Association was established as a result of our years long work with deaf and hard of hearing children and youth in the field of theatre. We soon discovered that through creativity we can contribute greatly to their development on their way to adulthood.
All the grafic work was made at the computer workshops with Tomo Zajc.
