Theatre as a Tool for Social Integration
The project allows deaf children and youth inclusion in the world of hearing, while at the same time it strengthens their self-awareness and encourages them to grow their own culture – the culture of the deaf. To do this we are successfully using theatrical medium that offers huge opportunities for expression and communication for each individual. The integration of deaf children and young people into hearing children and youth society with various campaigns (workshops: theatre, circus, dance, puppetry, creating performances, theatrical performances at festivals at home and abroad, youth exchanges, tours to schools and hospitals,...) enables personal growth for both groups – the deaf are very prominent in the field of mimicry and body language, which comes strongly to the fore in these workshops. Hearing children can learn many useful things from their deaf peers, with time they also learn to use the sign language, the deaf on the other hand obtain self-esteem and learn better communication with the help of body language, which encourages them to interact with hearing world as they can learn ways to communicate better and they especially become more relaxed and open to contacts with the “outside” world.
